The Assembly Leamington Spa is a great place for a gig, but it is also a totally spectacular building in its own right. It was built in 1926 as the Bath Assembly Hall – many places in Leamington were named to reflect its Spa status, even after its heyday – and was later renamed the Palais de Danse. It even had its own dance named after it which is still part of some ballroom exhibitions today – the Palais Glide. It got used to name changes; it was renamed the Embassy Ballroom and became very popular with servicemen during the war then, in 1952, it ceased to be used as a dance hall when the bingo craze began and it was reinvented as a bingo hall.
Stunning Art Deco
It was closed for a while before it was reopened in 2008 and is probably the only ex-bingo hall in the country to now boast an interior designed by Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen! In his usual style he has kept many of the original art deco features which by some miracle managed to survive the Assembly’s many incarnations and the interior is now absolutely stunning and well worth a visit in its own right. The venue can hold a thousand standing (or jumping about!) or four hundred seated and has played host to so many different genres of band it is hard to say quite what its main ambience is – the secret is to keep watching the press and website and something you love is bound to come along soon!
Club Nights, Comedy, Corporate and Private Functions
The Assembly is not just for music lovers, though. With three bars and in the most amazingly convenient location just near the station and just minutes from the M40, the Assembly Leamington Spa is ideal for corporate events and even private functions. If you are a music fan, you won’t have to wait ages for your favourite band to come along – the Assembly also hosts its own Club Nights with different themes and so something to amuse you is always just a week or two away at the most – and your favourite music could be on this very day! If you prefer the spoken word, check out the comedy nights.
State of the Art
Feedback from the artists and audience alike has been phenomenal since the Assembly Leamington Spa reopened. The staff are handpicked to be friendly and helpful and anyone who has experienced other typical club staff will know how important that is! Of course when it comes to listening to music volume isn’t everything, you need nice crisp sound as well and with the state of the art PA you will be able to hear everything without that horrible booming sensation in your chest. The Assembly Leamington Spa is designed and run with the artists and the audience in mind and when a band is happy, everyone is happy as every concert-goer knows. So whether you like mainstream music or something a little more off the wall, you will be able to hear every note as the bands intended at the Assembly Leamington.
